Trying To Lower My Alexa Rank

For several months now, I have been trying new tips/tricks/techniques in order to bring this pesky little thing called ‘the Alexa Rank‘ DOWN! I have tried all sorts of stuff to drive more traffic to this blog. Some have worked a bit; some not so much. Then I tried one new method that dropped my Alexa Score by more than 5,654,000 – OVERNIGHT!

Before Blogging

Alexa Rank Before Blogging (yikes!)

What Lowered My Score By Almost 6M Overnight?

Blogging. Yep. That’s it!  I started to blog.

I have had my blog up for several months now – posting ever so often, but couldn’t seem to get a nice steady flow of traffic to this page. My Alexa Rank was hanging around the 10,100,000 mark for quite some time. It was frustrating. No matter how many posts I published, I really couldn’t lower the score by much more than 1,000 units. I went to bed with an Alexa Rank of around 10,100,000. When I woke up and checked it out again it was at 4,446,616! The number of ‘Links in’ never changed.

After Blogging

So Where Did You Post & How Many Times?

To be honest – this was simple. I went to the Google Blog-search. I typed in keywords or phrases that was related to my particular website. Clicked on new/fairly new posts, read them, and commented on them. It really was that simple. I commented on maybe 10-12 for 2 days in a row. Crazy right? I know! Who would have thought blogging would have this much power!? I sure didn’t.

A Few Simple Blogging Reminders

- Comment only on related blogs to your niche

- Comment only about that specific article that they have written

- Offer value or additional input on their article. Not just ‘great article’.

- Don’t try to ‘post more than them’. If you appear to make the author look dumb because you are going in to great detail about the topic, he/she will more than likely disapprove your post

- Be polite! If you disagree with an article – cool! Either back out and don’t post a comment, or simple explain the way you feel. Never be rude. Your reputation is on the line!

The Power of Blogging

Guest Blog Posting = POWER!

Keep Blogging!

I know – 4,000,000 isn’t really a good score at all! But it’s a start! And it was a huge drop! That’s whey I posted about it! Keep repeating the process over and over for several days/weeks – and I’m guessing you will have some awesome results as well…

    Hey Brock,

You are SO right my friend. Blog commenting is huge and not only will it bring more traffic to your site, you will start learning a lot from other bloggers and build up relationships.

I have another blog on affiliate marketing and I created it toward the end of November. I started blog commenting that January and within five months my Alexa ranking was down to 125,000. Now that’s the power of blog commenting my friend. So, keep up the great work and let’s get more visitors over to your fabulous place.

      Hey Adrienne!

Yes – it appears to be quite powerful – on many levels.

That’s crazy! 5 months @ 125,000! I have had this blog since around March. I have JUST started guest commenting only 2 weeks ago. My site was around 10,500,000. And as of this message right now I am hanging around 2,400,000. Still a long way to go – but it seems to drop about 100-200K per day.

Thanks for the feedback. See you around :)

It’s fun to watch that Alexa ranking go down, isn’t it? I’ve read that they only update the # of links in they find every three months. But it’s been almost 4 months since they’ve updated that number for my site’s listing. So I’m not totally sure. It definitely affects the ranking though. I’ve been doing more guest posting and blog commenting and it’s helped my rankings as well.

      Hey Michelle!

Heck yeah – it’s a blast! I’m really blown a way. The majority of my traffic comes form article spinning and submitting as well as blog commenting.

The combination of both has lowered my rank from 10.5 million down to around 1.8 million in about 2 weeks. Pretty crazy. 1.8M really isn’t all that exciting – especially when looking at your stats – but it’s a leap; a big leap!

I have heard the same thing – every 3 months the links-in will be updated through Alexa. But assuming that is tomorrow, for me. I don’t think I will see any different in traffic – as traffic seems to be updated ever 2-3 days for me. Dropping by about 100-300K per drop. But, not sure. Just keep doing what we are doing and Alexa will continue to judge us! :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

I don’t know why but my Alexa rank is only 204 is that normal?

    • Brock Says:

Something tells me you misread the number, somehow. If you had a site ranked 204, you surely wouldn’t be taking the time to comment here. :)

      Good luck!

      Hey Ivan!

Keep creating content. The more content you have, the more authoritative you look to Google. Keep creating great content that will get Facebook ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ naturally. When you start to get those, Google starts to notice and will start to send you more traffic.

Keep doing what you have been doing, over and over again. You will continue to see your numbers drop!

    Hey Brock,

This is great! Ok, so I was wondering if you could assist on something. I had a blogspot site initially and then took it a step further and bought myself my own domain. I transferred all my posts to the new domain and it has been a while now since the old blogspot site has been deleted.

So, long story short, I check my Alexa ranking and the old blogspot site is actually lower than my real site. This is weird because the blogspot site is already deleted and closed.. Any idea why Alexa is still crawling a non-existing site… unless of course it’s linked to mine somehow… My alexa rank is very very high and I am wondering if this old blogspot site has something to do with it. Any help or thoughts you might have would greatly appreciated!

Hey Christain. Not sure – this is a bit outside of my expertise.

I can’t imagine that it is still connected as you said you had deleted it. But I guess it’s possible.

I wouldn’t focus so much on which one is larger or why it is so large – just start taking action and you will lower it no matter what. Start writing helpful, relative content for your site and start commenting on other blogs and building relationships. Your Alexa rank WILL start to lower. You will watch it drop drastically in the beginning. The closer you get to #1, the longer it takes and the more difficult it becomes.

Just take action! :) Hope this helps.

Keep blogging, keep posting keyworded content (valuable content).

I never use anchor text. Seems to ‘spammy’ to me. I simply write a post, and that’s it.

Lots of content – lots of comments. Keep goin’!

I love this article. We were on a mission to lower oour Alexa ranking. It has been 2 and a half months and we have been quite successfull. We went from over 3.5 million to 839,000 world wide and under 200,000 in the US.

It’s a video sharing site that has used quality content, linking to great blogs and directory marketing to make it all work. It has been work. You have to manually be added to the directories and blogging only works with real quality content
